Legislation to ensure that medical
practitioners keep their Medicare billing eligibility when the national
registration and accreditation scheme (NRAS) comes into practice is now going
through the Federal Parliament.
The AMA has welcomed the decision by the Medical Board of
Australia to include vocationally registered GPs on the Specialist Register of
the new national registration scheme, which takes effect from 1 July 2010.
The AMA has sought advice from Medicare
Australia to help protect practices from fraud arising from the misuse of
Medicare provider numbers.
